The first few days of the Observatory of Mutation and Growth — the Kishony lab’s 2 foot x 4 foot petri dish. Please try to ignore the condensation as much as you can, and focus on the white & green bacteria growing on the left. They’re swimming towards more food, but they’re being challenged by increasing concentrations of antibiotic (trimethoprem, vertical stripes). If they’re growing towards the center, it means they’ve acquired mutations that make them capable of living in that concentration of antibiotic.
